Check out these sun safety tips for Heat Safety Awareness Month.
Spring is here, and summer is right around the corner. As temperatures start to heat up, it’s time to spend more time outdoors. But, more time outdoors means more time spent in the sun. From sunburns to heat stroke, it’s important to be careful in the heat. May is Heat Safety Awareness Month. Ensure that you stay safe in the sun this summer with these sun safety tips.
Limit Sun Exposure.
When temperatures rise, avoid venturing out into the heat, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun is at its strongest. That way you can better protect yourself from heat-related illness.
Seek Shade.
If you must be outside, it’s important that you take plenty of breaks throughout the day, and drink plenty of water so that you stay hydrated. Additionally, when spending time outdoors in the heat, ensure that you stay in the shade as much as possible.
Wear Sun Protection.
The sun has powerful ultraviolet rays. These rays are often responsible for damage to the skin that causes sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. When heading out in the sun, ensure that you wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. That way you’re better able to protect your skin.
Never Leave Kids or Pets in the Car.
When it’s hot outside, it’s even hotter in the car. Never leave your pets or kids in the car, especially on a hot day.
Be careful this summer when out in the heat. Practice these sun safety tips for Heat Safety Awareness Month.
