Learn how to inspect and replace your windshield wiper blades.
While you might not think about it, your windshield wipers work hard to help your drive safely. In the winter, they clear away water, ice, and other debris that would affect your visibility. If you want to make sure that your windshield wipers continue to work effectively, then use this guide to help you inspect and replace your windshield wiper blades.
Inspect
Inspecting your windshield wiper blades is very straight forward. If they are functioning properly, then they are most likely fine. The only thing you need to look out for is if your wipers start to streak, skip, smear, or scratch your windshield. If you notice any of these issues then it’s probably time to change out your wiper blades. Follow the instructions below to replace your blades.
1) Measure
Start by measuring your wiper blades and referring to your car’s owner’s manual to confirm that you are using the right sized blades for your cars.
2) Remove Old Blade
To remove the old blade, gently lift the arm of your wiper away from your windshield. Then, press the small tab on the underside of the wiper arm. Hold this tab down as you slide the blade downwards.
3) Put on New Blade
To put on the new blade simply slide the blade onto the arm. You should hear a soft clicking noise when the blade locks into place. Once the blade is on, lower the wiper back onto your windshield. Complete this process for your other wiper.
4) Test
Finally, make sure that you test that your wipers are working correctly. The wipers should clear away water and debris without streaking, skidding, or scratching across your windshield. One you are satisfied with how your blades are operating, you are good to go!
