Committing To Conservation
Surviving The California Drought
After years of lacking rainfall, California is officially experiencing a full-fledged drought. While the government is doing its best to crack down on excessive water consumption, much of the responsibility to use water wisely falls to the individual consumer. You know the great importance of water, so it makes sense that you would want to conserve water. How, exactly, do you do that?
To help you cut back on your water usage, here are a few quick tips.
• Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when you have a full load. Waiting until your laundry hamper or dishwasher is full can save up to 50 gallons of water a week.
• Take five minute showers. It may sound quick, but with a little practice you can get clean in that amount of time and save 8 gallons every time you shower.
• As soon as you notice a leak in your home, fix it. Even if you just need to patch it until a professional can get there, stopping up a leak can save as much as 20 gallons a day.
• Water your lawn no more than two times a week. This will save up to 840 gallons of water each week.
• Use a broom to clean sidewalks, driveways, decks, and patios instead of a hose. Doing this will help you save as much as 150 gallons each time you clean.
• When brushing your teeth, turning off the water will save about 2.5 gallons per minute.
