Make sure your little ones stay safe while trick-or-treating this Halloween.
With Halloween right around the corner, your kids are probably excited by the prospect of candy, costumes, and all the fun they are going to have. However, as a parent, all these things are secondary to the safety of your children. Here are eight of the precautions that you should take to ensure that your kids stay safe while trick-or-treating this Halloween.
1) Make sure your child sets out in flat, comfortable shoes. Sneakers might not match their costume perfectly, but they will ensure that your child doesn't end up with sore, blistered feet by the end of the night.
2) If your child's costume requires a large prop, then make sure they know how to handle it without accidentally hitting or tripping people.
3) Younger trick-or-treaters should be accompanied by an adult at all times.
4) Older kids don't need parental supervision, but they shouldn't go out alone. If your child is trick-or-treating without you, then make sure that they are going with a group of friends that you know and trust.
5) Make sure you map out your child's trick-or-treating route beforehand. Lay out clear boundaries that they shouldn't cross.
6) Have your child carry a cell-phone. This way you can stay in contact with them and also track their location. Additionally, they will be able to call the authorities in the event of an emergency
7) Review stranger danger rules with your child. Remind them that they should never enter a stranger's home or vehicle and that they should call and ask you before accepting any invitations from friends.
8) Ask your child not to eat any candy until you can inspect it. Discard any unwrapped, unlabeled, homemade, or suspicious looking treats to ensure that your child doesn't eat anything tainted.
These are some of the precautions that you should take to make sure that your kids stay safe while trick-or-treating this Halloween. Want another way to take care of your loved ones this October?
